Winter Events in New Mexico

New Mexico offers continual unique opportunities to see and do things even in the Winter. The events listed are spread out throughout the state but just hours from Santa Fe. The following events are usually scheduled in January February and March, but research first to find the exact dates because the dates may change from year to year.

Torchlight parade and fireworks - Every Saturday during the winter season - Red River Ski and Summer Resort 

The grill at the Lift House deck is where the skiing torchlight parade can be seen and enjoyed. This unique is a must see if you are in New Mexico in the Winter. Don’t forget the fireworks are great too!

Big Ol’ Texas Weekend - January 27-29 – Taos

This is a fun-filled weekend of activities including live music from some great headlining acts. You can also sample food and whiskey and enter or observe the world famous “Big Texan Steak Challenge.”

Taos Winter Wine Festival - February 1-5 - Taos

This is a multi- day celebration of food and wine by local restaurants and over 40 national wineries.

Angel Fire Shovel Races – February 3-4 - Angel Fire

For those who don’t ski or snowboard maybe shovel racing is your thing. Even if yu don’t race, it is a blast to watch!

Chocolate Fantasia – February 11 – Silver City

In the town’s historic district on this day you can sample gourmet chocolate goodies in local galleries and shops. These are all handmade and beautifully displayed.

Friends and Lovers Balloon Rally – February 11-12 – Albuquerque

Bring your warm drinks and snacks and view local balloonists launch up to 135 hot air balloons.

Mount Taylor Winter Quadrathon – February 17-18 Grants

Bike Run, Ski, and Snowshoe from the town of Grants up Mt Taylor summit (11,201 ft) and back Whew!!

February Fun Fest – February 18-20 – Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort

This FREE family event occurs on President’s Day weekend. This celebration includes a giant snow castle, a costume contest and parade, treasure hunts, games with prizes and more!

National Fiery Foods and BBQ Show – March 3-5 – Albuquerque

Sample everything from spicy BBQ to superhot salsa, mild and savory marinades, and rubs and sweet heat desserts!

Las Cruces Cowboy Days – March 4-5 – Las Cruces

Two days of family fun for the kids, cowboy music and food, horseback and stagecoach rides, historical reenactments, arts and crafts vendors, roping and other demonstrations. Is that enough for the Cowboy/Cowgirls in you!

Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest - March 25-26 – Albuquerque

Over 120 vendors selling and sampling chocolate candies, fresh roasted coffee, cakes, teas, beer, wine and much more. This is the largest chocolate and coffee consumer marketplace in the nation. Remember life is too short for bad coffee or chocolate so swing on by!

Trinity Site Tour – April 1 – Alamogordo

Only open to the public twice annually. Visitors see Ground Zero “Jumbo” bomb casing, an old instrumentation bunker, historical photos, a “Fatman” bomb casing and part of the original crater left by the explosion revealing “Trinitite”.
